A study tour to Islamic University of Technology (IUT) Arranged by the Department of EEE

The Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) undertook a study tour to Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur on 27th of March, 2014. The tour was organized for the students of Renewable Energy Technology course and arranged by two course teachers Mr. Md. Asaduzzaman Shoeb, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering and Mr. Mohammad Nasim, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering. With the course teachers, Mr. Rashedul Haque, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, accompanied 40 enthusiastic students in the tour. On arrival students were greeted by Mr. Md. Shariful Islam and Md. Shafi Noor, Lecturer, Dept. of Mechanical and Chemical Engg. (MCE), IUT. Mr. Hamidur Rahman, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Mechanical and Chemical Engg. (MCE), IUT briefed the students about the renewable energy lab facilities in IUT and different aspects of renewable energy. The students were then given introduction with the Renewable Technology laboratory equipment. Then the students were demonstrated the working principle of solar water heating system, different types of solar collectors, biogas plant and photovoltaic-thermal hybrid system. Moreover, they observed one experiment with Mini Wind Turbine accompanied by a wind tunnel. The students got a clear practical idea about solar, wind and biogas energy system. The study tour contributed greatly to the students, reflected in their participations during the lecture-discussion session and their queries during the demonstration. Due to the keen interest of students Mr. Md. Shariful Islam showed the mechanical lab facility of IUT. The labs of computer aided automation, fabrication, mechanics, automobile, instrumentation and measurement and machine gave the students a glimpse on the mechanical engineering prospect and versatility. Finally they were given a pleasant tour around the campus.  Prof. Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Associate Professor and Head (undergraduate program), Mr. Rinku Basak, Assistant Professor and Head (graduate program), Mr. Nasimul Islam Maruf, Lecturer, Dept. of EEE and Ms. Tahia Fahrin Karim, Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, had provided their continuous support for the arrangement of the tour.
