The Department of Law at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organized the AIUB Law Evening on November 11, 2024, marking the commencement of a new Fall 2024-2025 semester with a vibrant celebration. The event welcomed freshmen, bid farewell to the graduating batch, and recognized AIUB alumni who were recently enrolled as Advocates at the Bangladesh Bar Council.
The program was formally inaugurated by Professor Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, who delivered an inspiring speech. Dr. Islam encouraged students to strive for excellence and expressed best wishes to the graduating batch for their future endeavors. He also congratulated the newly enrolled Advocates on their professional milestone.
The evening began solemnly with a moment of silence to honor the contributions made by students during the July Movement. Following this, a short video prepared by students showcased the enjoyable and enriching aspects of studying law, setting an upbeat tone for the event.
Professor Dr. Taslima Mansoor, Advisor to the Department of Law, emphasized the importance of mental well-being among students and encouraged their participation in moot court competitions, underlining the role of such experiences in shaping their legal acumen.
Freshmen were warmly welcomed by senior students with flowers and cards, creating a sense of fellowship. Faculty member Ms. Ferdousi Begum represented the department in extending greetings. The evening also featured valedictory speeches from graduating students, marking the end of an important chapter in their academic journey.
A highlight of the event was the recognition of the AIUB Law Department's team that participated in the 15th Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Competition. The team made history by winning the Best Memorial Award in the national round for the first time. The trophy was handed over to the department and received by the Dean, Advisor, and Head of the Department, Associate Professor Dr. Syeda Afroza Zerin.
The newly enrolled Advocates were also honored with crests and gifts in recognition of their achievement. Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, a video of a flash mob performed by students was screened, delighting the audience.
In her thanksgiving speech, Dr. Zerin highlighted the importance of civility in the legal profession and expressed gratitude to the organizers, particularly Assistant Professor Ms. Ferdousi Begum and Lecturer Mr. Quazi Omar Foysal, for their dedication to making the event a success. She also thanked the host, Lecturer Mr. Fahim Faisal Khan Alabi and everyone involved in the program.
The evening concluded with traditional music and dance performances arranged by senior students, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh. The event ended on a hopeful note, with aspirations for continued success and prosperity for the Department of Law.
