The BAU campus master-planning was designed by Architect Paul Rudolph in the late 1960’s, he also designed some of the significant buildings of the campus which includes auditorium complex, gymnasium building, faculty of Animal Husbandry, and, many of the university’s residential unit buildings.
A student group of 35 from AIUB department of Architecture journeyed through this world-renowned post-modernist Architect’s designed buildings and campus at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), in Mymensingh. The day-long educational excursion took place on a splendid Thursday- the 10th of November 2016, arranged by AIUB Department of Architecture, where the students of Design Studio II & Design Studio III were accompanied by six faculty members.
The team of students and faculty members explored the campus and its buildings by travelling on foot. Students drew sketches and took photographs throughout this visual journey, as knowledge of architectural site visit always get enriched with hands-on experience. The students enjoyed a delightful exposure to one of the architectural masterpieces in Bangladesh. The experience of unfolding space, structural uniqueness, play of natural lights, scale of the public buildings, and, use of local materials made the students cogitate about the beauty of Post-modernist Architecture unraveled in an educational institution. Around the afternoon, the team visited the old Brahmaputra riverbank, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
