Department of EEE in collaboration with Engineering Students’ Association of Bangladesh (ESAB) AIUB Unit Face organized a seminar titled as “Nano science and Nano technology” on June 20th, 2019 in room 3106, AIUB. The main purpose of the seminar was to provide introductory information to the students about Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and its contribution in our life and possible research opportunities.
The program began at 3:00 pm with national anthem followed by a brief promo video of ESAB AIUB UF shown to the audience. Prof. Dr ABM Siddique Hossain (Dean, Faculty of Engineering) inaugurated the seminar by greeting the speaker and the students. In his inauguration speech, he talked about the current phase and the future of Nano science and technology, highlighting it as a very functional topic right now in contemporary world. He suggested that interested students should try to explore this topic and the endless possibility. He also mentioned artificial intelligence, machine learning and some other aspect of technology that has the application of Nano science.
Dr. Mohammad Mahbub Rabbani (Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Natural Science, Chemistry) started the session about nano science and nanotechnology beginning with the origin of the word Nano which came from a Greek word called “Nanus”. One nano meter is 10 billionth of a meter. He said, it is 10 million times smaller than a football. Nanotechnology is a multidisciplinary field of both science and technology. It is about modifying, fabricating, tailoring, linkup, manipulating materials at nano scale. There are so many branches in nanotechnology like nano engineering, nano electronics, nano biotechnology, nano medicine, material science and so on. It is not possible for us to accommodate numerous things at a time. Our capability is limited but particle is small so we can accommodate more things at once and that is why we need nanotechnology. In 1959, concept of nanotechnology was introduced by Richard Feynman and the name was first used by Norio Taniguchi. He also talked about application of nanotechnology, advantages of nanotechnology. Lastly, he said that, nanotechnology is a highly focused field in Engineering, Science and Technology. For future engineers, understanding regarding nanotechnology will be a must know topic.
The seminar ended with a short speech about the perquisite of this seminar from Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman (Professor and Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB). He also thanked ESAB AIUB UF for organizing such a productive seminar for students. A token of appreciation was handed over to Dr. Mohammad Mahbub Rabbani by Prof. Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain and Prof. Dr. Md Abdur Rahman as a symbol of gratitude at the end of the seminar.
