The Department of Media and Mass Communication organized a seminar on "Contemporary Ethical and Legal Challenges for journalists" in the AIUB auditorium on October 12, 2015. The keynote speaker in the seminar was Mr. Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Editor-in- Chief, ATN Bangla and President, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ). Professor Dr. AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Chairperson of the Dept. of TV and Film Studies, Dhaka University (DU) and Adviser of the Dept. of Media and Mass Communication, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) delivered the welcome speech with his inspiring and motivational words.
Mr. Bulbul shared his valuable experiences as an eminent journalist, CEO, consultant and trainer in large local media conglomerates at home and abroad for more than 30 years. He said that numerous television and radio channels, community radios and Internet portals have been set up in recent years and deregulation in this field may lead to concentration of media ownership, cross ownership and politicization of the broadcasting sector, which would be damaging to the development of independent media institutions representative of the multiplicity of ideas and opinions within Bangladesh society.
In the question answering session Mr. Bulbul answered the questions posed by the students and faculty members of MMC department with great efficiency and everyone was very much enthusiastic in participation. The students of the MMC Department were very much ecstatic of being able to participate in the event
As a sign of gratitude, a gift was presented to Mr. Bulbul by Prof. Dr. Shafiul Alam Bhumiyan, Adviser, Dept. of Media and Mass Communication, AIUB. Professor Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, highlighted on the benefits of such seminars in his vote of thanks .
